Dr. Sukalyan Kumar Kundu Professor, Department of Pharmacy
PROFILE
SHORT BIOGRAPHY
Professor Sukalyan Kumar Kundu, PhD, is a distinguished academic and dedicated mentor in the Department of Pharmacy at Jahangirnagar University. With over two decades of experience in higher education and pharmaceutical research, he is widely recognized for his contributions to formulation science, phytopharmacology, toxicological studies, and drug delivery systems.
Dr. Kundu received his doctoral degree from Niigata University, Japan, under the prestigious Monbukagakusho (MEXT) Scholarship, where he conducted pioneering work on mucosal pathology and tissue regeneration. His research continues to bridge basic pharmaceutical science with applied clinical relevance, particularly in the fields of in silico drug modeling and herbal medicine evaluation.
As a mentor, Professor Kundu is known for his collaborative and hands-on approach. He has supervised more than 130 undergraduate and postgraduate research projects, and currently leads multiple PhD dissertations focusing on computational pharmacology, sustained-release drug formulations, and the therapeutic potential of Bangladeshi medicinal plants. His research group often blends bench science with computer-aided design, offering students exposure to both laboratory and digital pharmacology.
Beyond the lab, Dr. Kundu is actively involved in academic nurturing. He organizes student-led journal clubs, thesis writing workshops, and invites alumni and industry professionals for career talks, bridging academic learning with professional growth. He is especially passionate about cultivating independent thinking and research integrity among his students, often spending extra hours refining their scientific writing and guiding their publication efforts.
Professor (Grade-I) Kundu has also served in several administrative roles, including Department Chair, Provost of MMH Hall & SSB Hall, BMRC Council Member and Senate Member of Jahangirnagar University. His commitment to both academic excellence and institutional development makes him a cornerstone of the university’s pharmaceutical sciences community.
